Having been a fan of this Memphis/Mississippi Musician's gritty poetry for some time, I sprung for the $15 cover to see him live in a line up of a triag of performers, including Joey Cape, former lead of the punk band Lagwagon, and Jon Snodgrass of Drag the River (a band out of Colorado).
What might one expect from a live Cory Branan performance? A somewhat, modest and approachable country boy in ripped jeans and a sleeveless t-shirt, flops and an acoustic guitar. But once on stage, Cory's persona isn't quite so simple. He surprises and rocks the intimate Jacksonville crowd using his own spoken poetry -- infused with passion and wild and whirling guitar licks. Though he ain't the fastest album producer in the South, his songs are worth the wait.
